Our Story

Like many people that were inspired to organize after the death of George Floyd in 2020, like minded peers came together to dig their heels into the dirt to connect the community together. It was the need for community that perpetuated an organized mission. Rewriting the Narrative, bonded through the desire for change; a mass lifestyle change for all. We believe that lasting change comes from love, knowledge, opportunity and empowerment. We do this through open conversation, serving our community directly and strategic planning and partnerships. We began in 2020 with Conscious Conversations; pulling together like minded individuals from minority communities and those that serve within them, to discuss limitations and solutions for our community.

Next, through a partnership, we created marketing messages to get our community out to vote. To finish out 2020 we implemented Agenda: Giveback! Serving communities in-need all over Columbus, by way of black and minority owned businesses who collected donations. Since then and currently, we host 2 of our own premiere events, Juneteenth and WOVVEH Weekend, both educational opportunities for the community to know us and for us all to learn and grow within navigating our society. We live by this lifestyle and profess the message of the black agenda. A social and economical growth that exudes service, justice and peace. We stand up for our community and believe that with our activism and work that we will create a movement that will impact us all.

Our Board Members

I joined we are for the black agenda because I believe when like minded individuals come together change can be created. We need a space to speak freely without being judged and this is the space for that. I’m happy I joined this organization to help serve our community one step at a time.

I noticed that our community had several organizations striving to offer resources and support to the Black community, but from an individual lens. I didn’t see many organizations that did that from a collective-focused lens intending to bridge gaps. After meeting Chelsea and attending my first Conscious Conversation, I noticed and felt that collective presence with Rewriting the Narrative. I’m glad to be a part of this organization while making a difference!

After the tragic loss of George Flyod it was clear that serious change needed to happen across the world but it had to happen within your own community first and WA4TBA does just that. This organization is all about the positive changes and growth that can be had within our black communities and it's an honor to be a member!

I believe in this movement for 1 major reason. Representation matters. As an African American, fulfilling the dreams set before us by our ancestors is a part of our responsibility. What that looks like is shaped by the actions we choose to collectively invest in. This is my “why.”

  • Brandon Manyara, Member since 2021

am invested in this movement because when black people organize and properly utilize our resources we free ourselves. In all that I do, I feel called to grow and share knowledge. This organization has enabled me to do that and has the potential to do so for any community that It impacts.

Rewriting the Narrative is a movement I can believe in because it encourages the financial uplifting of our communities. I believe that economic advancement is the catalyst which our people can use to springboard into generational wealth. Our people deserve to be on equal footing in America when regarding opportunities and positions that are predominantly held by other races. I believe that my involvement brings a concentrated passion for the advancement of people that look like me, and I am willing to accept my role with the utmost belief in what can happen when we decide to rewrite our own narratives.
