Juneteenth

Juneteenth is an amazing time to come together and celebrate freedom of African Americans. It’s not only about celebrating but a time to educate yourself and be thankful our ancestors paved the way. Diving into our rich history and having intellectual discussions with others. We take our conscious conversations to the streets. We engage in social messaging and conversations about Black History and its accomplishments. We play games and spread knowledge during this time and the best time we get with the community face-to-face is at the Reynoldsburg Park! Which has had an amazing turn out at their Juneteenth event and we appreciate the opportunity to share our message with the community all throughout Franklin County every year. We plan to have a great turn out again for years to follow.

Community Service

This is our premiere event of the year! WOVVEH Weekend presents programming and workshops, as an opportunity for Black Columbus to come together. To tap into local resources and information supported by minority business owners and corporate business seeking to aid our target demographic. To bring together our community from all backgrounds, from professionals to students, to gain the resources and skills, which will allow them to have the awareness to rewrite their current story. WOVVEH means, Wealth, Opportunity, Our Vote, Our Voice, Education and Health for all!

As an organization we will be hosting quarterly community service projects so we can remain active and also target demographics of all age ranges from adolescents (10-17 y/o), young adults (18-24 y/o) and middle aged adults (25-35 y/o). Our target audiences concurred due to the members of our organization having desires to give back to all generations that we feel have been neglected and taken advantage of, in addition, wanting to form healthy relationships with our youth. We would like our community to know that we see them and that we are one of them.

Conscious Conversations

Conscious Conversations is a town forum event that is held on a consistent basis throughout the year, in which our organization invites the community to a public and designated area to discuss topics that affect Black people within the City of Columbus. The conversations are conducted in a structured manner to promote respect amongst each other, critical thinking, reflection, networking and the opportunity for people to voice their concerns, questions and ideas of current and/ or past events. This event allows for our organization to seek membership and come up with ideas for us to plan initiatives that will uplift our communities across Columbus, Ohio. Our host and Treasurer, Epifañio Antonio Torres, holds us down leading and mediating while serving within the United States Marine Corps because he enjoys seeing people from our community “background embrace constructive and positive communication to problem-solve on important issues that affect us all.”
